The site in Hartlepool owner by the Niramax Group is on an owner operated landfill and handled a mixture of C&I, C&D and MSW waste streams. With a limited lifetime available on the existing landfill, and the purchase of new landfill land locally, Niramax were looking to begin producing and shipping fuel.
The installation of a full, turn-key, RDF preparation plant (designed and installed by Pure Cycle Engineering’s engineers) began in October 2009. Consisting of pre-shredding, size and density separation steps, metals removal and further size reduction and processing equipment, the RDF plant produced a high quality, classified RDF fuel for export.
In 2011 an automated baling and wrapping system was added to allow export of RDF bales directly by local port.
In 2012 the system was expanded to run 240,000 tpa of waste in 2 x 10 hour shifts. The system is still in full operation now and can be seen running.
